I was thinking the same thing to myself last night. GNR is doing precisely what they must do to cater to their audience, and they are masters at it. They are playing all of the hits. With the exception of some upset over the Don't Cry/Patience alternating, really there isn't a big GNR hit that they aren't going to hear on the staple setlist. And, it was abundantly clear to me why last night. JBJ opened with two of his crap new songs. Needless, to say, the audience was underwhelmed. This is why the GNR setlist is genius in the setup. Playing two Appetite hits but saving the ginormous heavy hitters and spacing them throughout the set, also thoughtfully spacing the Chinese Democracy material so that the hardcore fans get enough but the casual fans aren't put off by it (not to mention Axl always makes the Chi Dem material amazing). I was pretty pissed last night leaving the concert because there were a shit ton of songs I would have liked to have heard that weren't played, and I think the sentiment of most was that they were disappointed in the choice of material. The crowd was sitting for half the night. And while I put on my concert persona and danced and screamed anyway (much to the dismay of the woman next to me who started putting her fingers in her ears when I screamed), the energy level wasn't even a tenth of what you feel at a Guns show. It really reminded and underscored for me what a fucking fantastic frontman Axl is. Unbelievable the difference. Night and day. JBJ fucking stood at his mic the whole time, none of his songs are challenging, and even Livin' on a Prayer was just his regular voice with no high notes or held notes. Speaking of which - he had the audience sing the entire first verse of it and then didn't go back and sing it himself! He just moved on to the second verse! Axl would NEVER fucking do that!!!!! If I wanted to hear myself sing the songs I wouldn't have paid for a ticket and would have just sat in my car singing them! Fortunately we still had fun. I would go to see a Bon Jovi solo acoustic set. I think a laid back set where he played several of his hits would be pretty cool. But yeah, no interest in paying for and watching the arena show. I do like when the crowd sings WITH the performer. But not FOR the performer. Vince Neil tried that little trick far too often, in an effort to preserve his lousy voice, it seemed. "Never Say Goodbye" is one of my favorite Bon Jovi tunes. Ugh, I would have been mad had they not played it ... but how do you skip "Runaway"? I get it, I suppose. They want to push new material. But i bet that set wasn't more than 75-90 minutes, right? Play longer! Exactly. The set was definitely not more than 90 minutes. And he was just standing there anyway, so play longer is exactly what I was thinking! I was really pissed about Never Say Goodbye and Runaway. And I really don't know how you talk about Runaway twice as your first hit teasing the audience and then don't fucking play it. Would have liked In and Out of Love, Let It Rock, Silent Night and I'd Die For You too. Unbelievably, only three songs were played from Slippery When Wet - THREE! - and NOTHING before that! Every other song on the setlist was New Jersey and after. No thanks. At least Motley had a good representation of all of their (Vince fronted) albums and hits when they played.

Every other song on the setlist was New Jersey and after. No thanks. At least Motley had a good representation of all of their (Vince fronted) albums and hits when they played. An amateur video was widely (I believe) broadcast last year of JBJ seemingly forced into a duet with a wedding singer at a reception. Either his behavior was absolutely real or his acting has become oscar contender level since remaining out of the movie cameras for so long, but he appeared extremely reluctant and irritated to have been guilted up next to the far superior sounding singer that afternoon. Granted, he most likely had not warmed up, but he knew or must have known, I'm presuming completely, that if he knew the wedding party, he must have known he would be urged to join. All of it very well may have been a setup, a pretty effective media stunt, but JBJ's appearance and attitude, planned or not to have the opposite affect, were the dominating factors, making him seem repelled to performing, to his own music, and to performing his own music to the joy of everyone there and who could witness his behavior. Even more sadly was how unimpressive his efforts appeared. All of this is perhaps grossly unfair. The man was simply seeming to want to be a wedding guest and complied honestly. But he at first gave off the impression he wanted nothing to do with his one time rock stardom. Now that he's on a tour, it seems that he smelled some opportunism in light of others' success. My take on this is turning into something that I do not like. Me, a non-musician, painting up my opinionated perspective on an established performer's is pretty outrageous. However, imagining Axl acquiescing to anything is impossible. To even a request for something simple as an answer to a question, he will not hesitate in the least to give a completely honest response, however much it disappoints the asker.

I'm planning on having a cigar with whiskey tonight so my two questions aren't questions I'm dying to know but I'm curious!
What brand of cigars did the boys or Axl smoke? If it's not over 20 bucks for one cigar I'll try 😀
Same question for the whiskey 😆
Anyone know?

I have zero clue as to which cigar brand has been picked, but I haven't seen any pictures from the last five to six years of anyone smoking any cigars. The one picture of that which I'm thinking is I believe from 2010, but I'm unsure. In terms of whiskey, I don't believe any of them drink whiskey, certainly not Duff or Slash, who both have been sober for many years. I've seen Axl pictured (in the same one as with the cigar) with a bottle of beer and also with a glass of champagne but again, these are old images. Dizzy mentions having a shot of Jagermeister on occasion. Tommy had noted how he might have a whiskey shot, but no brands nor style, whether bourbon, sour mash (which is what the long ago Slash choice of Jack Daniels is), or rye. I recommend pairing your cigar with a good peaty Scotch, such as Lagavulin or Laphroaig, something which won't be overwhelmed by the heavy tobacco flavor. Bourbons and sour mashes tend to be sweet when compared with Scotches and Ryes. Above all though, drink your whisky NEAT. No ice or added water, for they ruin the experience.

Thanks man! figured they would have been whiskey hounds back in the day. Learn something new lol. Yeah, I saw a pic of axl with a cigar back in 2010, was curious what kind it was. I tried that bubbly water he drinks, starts with a P, didn't like it 😂

If you find yourself in midtown Manhattan, J&R Tobacco is an excellent store to visit www.jrcigars.com/brand/macanudo-cigars/macanudo

stay away from jack daniels/jim beam/southern comfort
:barf:
go closer to the top shelf, maybe crown royal? maker's mark?
scotch gives me an instant headache. most cigars smell worse than unflushed toilets, so make sure you order good ones.

I'm encouraged to type here, "Okay." Crown Royal seen as top shelf. I do like that in terms of the "Wiseguy" reference, the ol' Canadian imports tabooism... But either way, just the mention of Crown Royal calls to mind a place I happened upon during the 2014 Hard Rock Res... Just up the road on Flamingo, headed towards the strip, just, ever so just, under the Bally's monorail... it be called, Stage Door Casino, AND JUST LOOK AT THEM PRICES...

^ that is a very dangerous offer, MrHays. they MUST be watered down at the price? but at 3 bucks a pop, i'd gamble for a kickback or two... i only meant to say that crown and makers mark are closer to the top shelf than jack, beam and so.co.

I'm thinking perhaps this is veering far too from anything Guns related, except for how I'll swear I've had many a whisky before, during and after shows. MSG's floor level bar was a recent surprise, opposite side from the stage, just around the corner... oh, how I hope for there to be a show there soon! But back to The Joint, could anything've been more convenient, elevator to and from a room, so many, and of course, the center bar, from which they had available... Jim Beam Black! Now, have you had it, I inquire. I'll, and others'll, put it above Mister Maker's. Dickle rye hung out on those upper shelves as well. High West is something great itself. It ain't knockin' off Mr Woodford from the top, but a lovely young lady held a High West tasting a few back across the street here, and if anyone ever offers you their 'Campire" blend, do not refuse. Take thirds in a no prisoners fashion. I also gestured to buy Tommy a whiskey down the road, but my few in state received a refusal.

All this talk about Vegas and smoking reminded me of the time Axl busted me for lighting up a joint at The Joint at the beginning of Paradise City. My husband and I will never forget it lol. I usually wait until PC to light up in Vegas in case I get kicked out. Didn't happen the night Axl called it out, but it did happen once in 2014, whoops.
Anyway, here's the video.
